When someone dies because of the negligence of someone else, the decedent's estate representative, or his or her surviving spouse or dependents, can file a wrongful death claim. When a loved one dies in an accident, his or her family faces financial hardship from funeral costs, lost income, and sometimes pre-death medical expenses. A wrongful death settlement can help to ease the family's financial burden. But who gets the money in a wrongful death lawsuit? When someone dies because of the negligent or intentional actions of another person, surviving family members may file a wrongful death lawsuit to recover compensation for their losses. Wrongful death lawsuits are filed in civil court and can be won regardless of the outcome of a criminal case against the wrongdoer. Since these types of cases can require expert testimony, extensive evidence, and intense litigation, many people hire an experienced wrongful death lawyer to guide them through the legal process and help them understand how to prove wrongful death.

Finding a dedicated local lawyer can be challenging. Many large law firms have set up satellite offices around Nevada,, so it can be hard to determine whether you are dealing with a local lawyer or not. A satellite office can make a legal professional appear local, but that doesn't mean the attorney will provide a local counsel's benefits. Therefore, be sure to ask where the attorney lives before making a decision. Seek referrals from friends and family members to avoid falling into the hands of lawyers not familiar with your territory.
